Dry ice blasting operation on wood...
In a previous article, we discussed cryogenic blasting on automotive bodywork and misconceptions following the publication of certain videos on the internet. And, as you were able to read and see, for stripping automotive paints, cryogenic alone is not the most suitable method, due to, to repeat it once more, the hardness of dry ice which is comparable to that of chalk.
Therefore, we cannot rely on its abrasive power, as it has little to none (stripping effect on soft materials such as: pine, fir, Teflon…).
Dry ice cleaning alone does not allow:
- stripping pollutants with strong cohesion and thermal conductivity close to "0",
- stripping paints with strong cohesion and high adhesive resistance… especially the most recent ones in age and composition such as two-component or epoxy paints,
- to strip deep rust : only surface rust can be stripped,
- stripping layers of galvanized coating…
Le conclusion is therefore as follows: with dry ice projection, we obtain on many pollutants an immediate stripping effect and on others moderate to virtually non-existent stripping. This is moreover this non-abrasiveaspect that makes dry ice cleaning a unique technique.
The benefits of dry ice blasting
Until now, one of the most effective methods for removing the various pollutants mentioned above was sandblasting.
Why not therefore design a stripping system that would have the advantages of:
- dry ice cleaning, limited in waste, and
- sandblasting and its high stripping power.
This is the idea from which dry ice blasting was born.
We therefore designed a dry ice blasting kit, the ICE+ Abrasive kit which allows adding abrasive to the dry ice jet in micrometric amounts.
Finally, we obtain stripping effects close to sandblasting, while reducing abrasive input by up to 20 times thanks to the interaction between dry ice and abrasive.

The benefits of the ATX10 dry ice blasting kit are numerous:
Allows stripping pollutants with strong cohesion: two-component paints, intumescent paints…,
Allows surface preparation for painting: creating adhesion on metal surfaces,
Strips deep rust, epoxy coatings, galvanized coatings…
Allows removal of graffiti even on porous stone, etc.
ATX10 dry ice blasting kit: how does it work?
The operating principle of the ATX10 abrasive kit is very simple.
This kit consists of:
- a removable cartridge : with a capacity of 3 to 10 kg of abrasive (depends on the density of the abrasive), accepts all abrasives with a particle size of less than 0,8 mm. Removable as it allows immediate emptying of its contents for abrasive change, or placing it right next to you for work requiring large distances between the cryogenic machine and the blasting gun
- a 304 stainless steel venturi : to be placed just at the gun outlet,, or after the fragmentationnozzle, or at the end of an extension de 30 cm à 3 meters,
- a venturi barrel and a tungsten carbide nozzle : accepts all types of abrasive including corundum (Mohs hardness 9)
- an abrasive supply hose of 5,5 meters or 7,5 meters, depending on the blaster chosen
The dry ice blasting abrasive kit ATX10 ICE+ is available on the following dry ice cleaning models: ATX nano-E, ATX nano-P, ATX25-P, ATX25-E V1 and V2.
It also exists in baking soda only version for all the above-mentioned models and for CB02-E and CB02-P models
Le ATX10 ICE+ kit is compatible with certain dry ice cleaning models other than Cryoblaster®. To find out if your dry ice cleaner is compatible, call 04 81 61 02 75.
