Dry Ice Blasting for Cars: How It Works and Service Centers in France
Dry ice blasting is an effective solution for restoring surfaces without detergents. Dry ice (solid CO2) has the hardness of chalk, making dry ice blasting for cars a fast, dry cleaning method that respects materials (engines, wheels, seats).

Dry Ice Blasting for Cars: How Does It Work?
The dry ice cleaning technique consists of the projection of particles de it.
This projection is accomplished using a cleaning equipment unit ATX Nano ou other (ATX25-E, ATX30...)
L'ATX Nano(for example) is connected to a source of(compressor or factory pressurized air network) as well as to a single-phase 220V electrical power source.
The hopper is then filled with pellets or mini-cylinders of solid carbon dioxide that can be compared in appearance to grains of rice. Mixed with the help of a metering plate, the dry ice in pellet form is then conveyed, through compressed air flow to the spray gun and nozzle, via a hose.
This cleaning technology is used in industry, but it is increasingly employed in many sectors. Thus it effectively replaces traditional techniques such as sandblasting or the and allows moss removal from facades or roofs even on natural slate and terracotta tiles. No chemical products, only.

Dry Ice Blasting in Detail
The projection of dry ice on surfaces to be cleaned generates 3 nearly simultaneous actions. As indicated, the particles de CO2 solid particles are projected onto surfaces using compressed air:
- These particles are charged with kinetic energy and create upon impact a micro "mechanical shock" or "mechanical effect"
- Since dry ice temperature is -80°C, this creates a "thermal differential" between the contaminant and the surface. This phenomenon is known as "thermal shock" or "thermal effect".
- Finally, upon impact, there is a transition from solid state of solid CO2 to gaseous state, in a ratio of 1 to 700, or "sublimation" that ultimately completely dislodges the contaminant.
This is why we recommend, especially for dry ice engine cleaning operations, to place under the vehicle a plastics. You will thus more easily eliminate the removal is, or layerand grease detached particles.

What Are the Applications in the Automotive Industry?
We address here only the maintenance and renovation aspects. For the use of cleaning in the automotive sector, and thus in manufacturing and assembly, we will dedicate another article on this site.
Dry ice blasting applications on automotive industry are varied and can consist of:
- engine cleaning: car, truck, tractor...
- aluminum wheel cleaning
- bumper restoration
- removal of protective coating or chip-resistant coating
- sticker removal
- car seat cleaning
- floor, carpet, and floor mat cleaning
- cylinder head cleaning
- truck cleaning...

A mechanic wishing to work on an engine may find engine degreasing interesting without water, without solvents, quick and effective...
We have gathered below some of the many advantages benefits of this technology
The Benefits of Dry Ice Blasting for Cars
As indicated in the introduction, hardness of Carbon dioxide ice is comparable to that of chalk :
- there is therefore is not no need toworry for paint bodywork or the surface condition of plastics or car seats
- no moisture either; dry ice is solid CO2 and contains no moisture traces: it's a dry cleaning and therefore is not risk-free approach to corrosion
- does not require no disassembly: the engine can be cleaned in place. No risk to engine mounts: does not damage rubber
- the treatment is : cleaning 2 X 750 linear meters of food processing conveyor chains faster than traditional cleaning methods because cleaning is instantaneous and requires no drying time
- it allows you to clean the greasy surfaces and electronic housings safely without damaging electronic circuits or the surface condition of components
- generates no secondary waste or effluent, unlike high-pressure washers which require water reprocessing
- environmental responsibility: no solvents, no chemicals, no water. The carbon dioxide used returns to the atmosphere after a second useful life
- Non-toxic: dry ice blasting is used by industrial companies, particularly in food manufacturing
- ideal for surface preparation before painting due to its high degreasing power
