How does it work?

The equipment used in this video is the Cryoblaster® ATX80 (replaced by ATX5). This material is a cryogenic gumming machine,capable of ensuring the projection of a mixture of dry ice and abrasive.
Dry ice, in the form of pellets with a diameter of 3 mm, is placed inside the hopper or blaster tank.
The blaster is connected to the energy source, i.e. to a source of compressed, clean and dry air. The latter becomes the vector of projection of dry ice.
At the same time, the flow of compressed air inside the gun generates a depression. The gun is then able to suck abrasive, previously placed inside the kit (or device) provided for this purpose. The latter is placed at the back of the blaster.
Projected at very high speed using a firing hose, a pistol and a spray nozzle, the mixture of dry and abrasive ice travels at an average speed of 120 m/s.
Good to savoir:
cryogenic cleaning on
deep rust is not enough, because the hardness of dry ice is comparable to that of chalk. Only the addition of abrasive allows a stripping of deep rusts.
The technique of cryogenic scrubbing (dry ice + abrasive) is similar to sandblasting without the drawbacks.
3 phenomena then take place…
1- thekinetic energy with which the abrasive is charged, instantly takes off the pollution, while allowing dry ice to generate microcracks on the “softer” parts of the pollutant: this is the mechanical shock.
2- the temperature of the ice of -78.4 ° C, allows the pollution to retract on itself. The latter peels off the treated surface: it is the thermal shock
3- the blast generated by the passage of dry ice from the solid state to the gaseous state, including a ratio of 1 to 700,ended up completely peeling off the residues.

The hardware used in this video is the ATX80 Cryoblaster (replaced by ATX25) equipped with the abrasive kit.
The dry ice & abrasive mixture is carried out inside the gun by suction or venturisystem. The media is sprayed with a tungsten carbide nozzle.
